How To Prepare For Halloween

Spooky season is well and truly upon us! Whether you’re trick or treating or scaring yourself with a horror movie, Halloween is an exciting time. For parents, it can be overwhelming with all the planning. Just the thought of shopping for costumes, baking Halloween cookies and decorating the house can be haunting to hear! To lift your spirits, we’re here to help you out! Here is how to prepare for Halloween!

prepare for halloween by carving out pumpkins

1. Get The Kids Involved

Kids love sweets and chocolates on Halloween (and we don’t blame them!) but if you want to prepare for Halloween, you should get the kids involved in decorating the house. Kids are creative and no doubt will have fun coming up with ideas to create a scary atmosphere at your house.

In addition, you should use Halloween as a time to introduce your kids to baking. If your Halloween plans include staying in and watching a scary horror with the family, then why not enjoy the night with homemade Halloween cookies? It’s sure to be a scream!

Don’t forget the pumpkins! It wouldn’t be Halloween without them. Ask your kids to carve the Pumpkins so they can truly show their artistic side and add an extra spooky vibe to your house!

2. Shop Early For Halloween Costumes

Preparing for Halloween costumes requires time and patience but if you leave your Halloween shopping to the last day, you’ll be rushing and miss out on the best deals.

Ask your kids what costumes they like to wear and buy them as soon as they’ve made their decision.

We do recommend the idea of renting costumes as it can save you more money rather than buying them.

3. Prepare For Halloween Trick Or Treating

Even if you don’t plan on going out and prefer a nice cosy night inside, you’ll still get the chance to interact with the trick-or-treaters! You don’t want to scare the trick-or-treaters away by telling them you have no treats. Make sure you at least have a bucket of sweets that you can hand out to them!

Halloween is a time that the whole community gets involved so make an impression on the neighbourhood by stacking up pumpkins, spider webs and other scary Halloween decorations!

4 Common High School Stains

As the first high school term finishes, kids are relieved to get a break. For busy parents, the thought of more laundry lingers. Laundry during the school year is difficult, but parents have learned the lesson to prepare. As you’re putting the school uniforms in the washer, you’ll encounter stains. This blog will go through the 4 common high school stains.

1. Ink

Perhaps not surprisingly, ink is at the top of the most common high school stains. Your child will be using ballpoint pens every day, so the writing is on the wall – ink stains are inevitable but worry not, they aren’t difficult to remove.

Ballpoint ink stains don’t take much to remove. If the ink is dry, rub alcohol on it, soak it for 15 minutes and then blot the stain. Afterwards, rinse the uniform in cold water and apply stain remover on it. Once you’re happy with the results, put the uniform in the washing machine and press the hot settings to start the cycle.

2. Paint

Painting is a fun activity for kids and great for the mindset as it encourages creativity. However, parents don’t have much fun removing paint stains from clothes because unfortunately, paint is one of the most common high school stains.

Water-based paint is regularly used in schools. The good news for parents is that it’s easy to remove.

To begin with, get a butter knife and scrape off as much as you can and then use warm water to rinse it. After you’ve done this, get a laundry detergent and mix half of it in warm water then blot it with a paper towel. If you’re happy with the results and the stain is going away, wash the uniform in the washing machine.

3. Mud

As much as we warn the kids about how dirty the mud is, they’ll still go and play sports in the muddy areas. We’re talking about football, cricket and even rugby!

Fortunately, mud stains are very visible, unlike ink stains, so chances are, you’ll spot them as soon as your child returns from school (bringing the mud with them!). When you see mud stains on their uniform, simply put the school uniform in the washing machine at 40 degrees. Mud stains usually will go away in the cycle.

For those sticky mud stains that have gone unnoticed for a period, brush them away first, pour liquid detergent on them and rinse them on cold water. Then put them in the washing machine at normal settings.

4. Glue

Whether it’s used on a project or in textbooks, glue always somehow lands on school uniforms. Everyone dreads seeing sticky glue on their uniform – it’s hard to avoid but it is easy to remove.

Simply get a butter knife and scrape the glue off the school uniform. Afterwards, put the uniform in the washing machine and wash at 40 degrees.

The main lesson to take here is that you’ll come across these common high school stains every term.

3 common dessert stains (and how to remove them)

Everybody loves desserts, especially on national dessert day. Calories don’t count on this day (don’t spoil the fun!) but the laundry does count when you accidentally spill dessert on your clothes. Fortunately, we are here to guide you on how to remove the most common dessert stains.

1. Cake Icing Stains

Words cannot describe how great cake is; It’s creamy and sweet, and sometimes, it can be annoying when it lands on your lap! The icing part of the cake especially can be tedious to remove from your clothes due to its oily fat and artificial pigment.

To remove the cake icing stain, get a butter knife to scrape it and then rinse the stain with cold water. Afterwards, treat the stained area with a stain remover and allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes.

2. Ice Cream Stains

Summer may be over but it’s still not too cold for ice cream, especially in October! Ice cream brings smiles to faces, but like the gloomy autumn days, ice cream stains on your clothes bring frowns.

First things first, treat the stain immediately and don’t allow it to settle further into the fabric. Scrape the ice cream stain off using a butter knife and then pour some laundry detergent into the stain.

Read our blog here for a full guide on removing ice cream stains.

3. Jelly Stains

Jelly is a delightful dessert that bursts with tasty fruity flavour. No matter what fruit your jelly is, it can wobble our laundry routine with an unexpected spill on your clothes.

Much like cake icing and ice cream stains, don’t let jelly stains settle into your clothes. Immediately scrape them off using a butter knife, wet a paper towel and blob the clothing and then proceed to pour stain remover.

It’s very important to remind you that do not to put any dessert-stained garments into the dryer because the high heat will cause the stain to remain. Always be sure that stains have been removed first.

We hope you enjoy national dessert day. If you stumble on any of these common dessert stains, remember that Laundryheap is available to help you! We’ll remove any stains for you!

Dos and Don’ts of Washing Fabrics

Fabrics need no introduction; they are great accessories in our wardrobes and their material is long-lasting. However, there are ways to preserve the fabric. This guide will walk you through the dos and don’ts of washing fabric.

Washing Fabrics

Do Pre-Treat Stains

Stains on our clothes are certain to happen, no matter how careful we are. Thankfully, they are easy to remove. Whenever food stains land on your fabric, pre-treat the stains immediately and don’t let them settle.

Don’t Mix Heavy Clothing With Fabrics

You’ve probably heard of the number one rule in laundry; always separate the colours but it’s also important that you don’t mix heavy clothing with fabrics to avoid damage to the fabrics.

Do Wash Dark Clothes Inside Out

Fabrics are a delicate material and therefore, they need to be washed cautiously. If you have dark clothes, wash them inside them out to prevent them from fading.

Don’t Ignore The Care Labels When Using The Tumble Dryer

The tumble dryer is a great appliance but unfortunately, it’s not made for every clothing. Don’t ignore the care labels when washing fabrics because the heat inside the dryer can overwhelm the fabric.

Do Separate Clothes By Fabric When Drying

If you’ve read the care labels and it says the fabric type is okay for tumble drying, you must still take caution and separate clothes. This is because if you dried heavier and lighter garments together, it could cause problems such as one garment coming out over-dried and the other one still remaining damp.

Don’t Use Soap To Remove Stains

There are a few ways to remove stains from fabrics but using soap isn’t one of them. The general rule of thumb is to pour liquid detergents on the stained area and let it settle for 15 minutes. This way, your fabric is preserved better.

Do Use Hot Water When Washing Lighter Fabrics

Hot water doesn’t work when you are removing a diary-stained from your clothes but do use hot water when washing lighter fabrics and towels because it will increase the chemical reaction of the detergent and kills bacteria.

Don’t Use Chlorine Bleach On Colour Fabrics

If you want your coloured fabrics to remain in the best condition, don’t use chlorine bleach because it will cause the colours to fade and white stains will appear.

As always with any laundry chore, read the labels. Fabrics such as wool, silk, leather and spandex should never be washed with bleach. If your fabric’s care labels say ‘bleach-safe’ or show a triangle symbol then you can use bleach. Otherwise, don’t use chlorine bleach on your fabrics.

We hope this guide will make your laundry easier next time you are taking care of fabric!

If you are still unsure or need help, just in touch with Laundryheap and we’ll wash your fabrics for you!

5 Things To Remember When Travelling

Travelling is fulfilling; you experience new places, and food and learn about different cultures. In the midst of travelling, it does come with challenges because wondering what to pack and planning for the trip can be overwhelming. What if we told you that it doesn’t have to be that way? In this blog, we will go through the 5 things to remember when travelling!

Things To Remember While Travelling

1. Research The Entry Requirements

Every country has its own requirements to enter. While you’ll always need a passport or ID, there are other documents that don’t catch our attention as much. Keep a look out for VISA requirements but fortunately, countries like Bahrain make the process seamless with digital eVisa registering.

In addition, vaccines and other health documents are important things to remember when travelling. Follow the protocols.

2. Prepare Financially

Travelling by plane is not expensive but touring the country can be pricey so keep a budget. There are things you can do to prepare for your trip financially.

For starters, it always helps to know the currency exchange and to see how your currency compares to the local one. Also, find out if your credit card can be used on your trip and contact your bank just so they don’t block your card from being used overseas.

3. Use a Laundry Service

Packing dirty clothes on your way back home can be tedious. Many people don’t do their laundry while on holiday because launderettes can be expensive.

However, we are here to remind you that Laundryheap is here for your laundry! If you’re travelling to Netherlands, USA, UAE, Qatar, Denmark, Bahrain etc. you can book a laundry service with us! It’s affordable, flexible and fast!

Once booked, we’ll collect your laundry on the same day and return it back within 24 hours to your hotel! It saves you time and money on the tedious laundry chores and it makes your trip better!

4. Find Out What Your Hotel Offers

If you’re on a budget trip, the chances are that your hotel may not have everything you need. It’s worth remembering, when travelling, that you’ll probably need to bring your own toiletries or a good towel that you feel comfortable in.

Most hotels will usually have towels and basic toiletries but just in case they don’t, be prepared and remember the essentials.

5. Remember To Pack Plug Adapter Before

Plug adapters are essential things to remember when travelling abroad. We need them to charge our phones and laptops. Avoid buying them at your destination because they can be quite expensive.

Always be prepared and pack a plug adapter beforehand to save you money and the hassle of going from shop to shop looking for one.

Travelling is a great experience and an opportunity to create memories with friends and family.

These are 5 things to remember when travelling but perhaps the most important thing to remember is to have fun and enjoy your trip!

6 Things You Should Never Put In The Tumble Dryer

Tumble dryers are a great appliance; they dry clothes efficiently and save you time from hanging clothes on the clothesline. However, while the tumble dryer makes the chores easier, it’s not made for every garment item.  Here is a list of items you should never put in the tumble dryer.

1. Leather Jacket

Leather jackets are the epitome of style and elegance. They’re clothing accessories that need to be taken care of. As good as they look, they should never be put in the tumble dryer because the heat in the dryer can ruin their shape and texture. So next time your leather jacket gets wet from the rain, hang it up to preserve its material.

Leather jacket - item shouldn't be put in tumble dryer

2. Bags and Packpacks

Whether it’s school bags or normal bags, they do need cleaning. Just like the leather jacket, bags shouldn’t be put in the tumble dryer because they will shrink and ruin the insides of the bags.

Also, if you are travelling, it’s best to avoid putting backpacks in the tumble dryer. It’s best to air-dry both backpacks and bags.

School bag - item should never be put in tumble dryer

3. Silk

Silks are delicate fabrics, and they should never be put in the tumble dryer because the heat will overwhelm the material and cause wrinkles to form.

silk is item that should never be put in the tumble dryer

4. Sweaters

Perfect for the winter weather, sweaters are items that can be quite sensitive to the dryer’s heat as it shrinks them. Once your clothes have been shrunk, it’s hard to get your sweater back to its original shape. Always follow the care labels and air-dry to take better care of your sweaters.

Sweaters - items that should never be put in tumble dryer

5. Swimwear

Washing your swimwear after using them is important to get rid of any sand or chlorine. Once washed, this item should never be put in the tumble dryer because of its fabric material. The heat will ruin the swimwear’s fabric.

6. Wool

Wool is a delicate material that is prone to shrinking due to the high heat in the tumble dryer. It’s worth noting that some wool items are manufactured to withstand tumble dryers, but the rule of thumb is to always read the label for instructions. If your wool garment’s label says it is not made to go in the tumble dryer, heed the advice and start to air-dry.

For every item you put in the tumble dryer, always read the care label to be on the safe side. Your clothes deserve to be taken care of and safely laundered and dried.

How To Remove Cheese Stains

Today happens to be national cheese toast day. For the cheese lovers out there, celebrate loudly and eat good cheese! It goes well in our pasta, mac and cheese, pizza, and toast! However, cheese dropping on your clothes is not a good sight and if you need guidance on how to remove cheese stains, this blog will help you!

How To Remove cheese stains

Scrape The Cheese Stained Area

First things first, don’t wet the cheese stains when you first notice them. Instead, try to scrape as much of the cheese stain using a paper towel.

Pre-Treat And Wash Gently

To remove cheese stains, always read the care labels to be extra cautious with your garment material. Once you’ve read the care label, start to pre-treat the stained area with a liquid detergent and wait for 5 – 10 minutes.

Afterwards, put your garment in warm water. Start to wash it gently and use a clean cloth to scrub the stain with a detergent solution.

If you’re not happy with the results, you can repeat the same steps, but this time treat the cheese-stained area with 1/3 cup of vinegar and 2/3 cup of water. If your garment is made of fabric, put it into the washing machine and start to launder.

Dry Your Garment

After the washing cycle is over, get a soaked clean sponge and try to blot the stain to make sure the detergent solution is removed. When you remove the cheese stains, proceed to dry your garment, ideally on an outdoor clothesline.

We hope cheese stains on your clothes don’t ruin national cheese toast day for you! It’s a day that deserves celebration and brings joy to all cheese lovers!

At Laundryheap, we love cheese as much as we love doing your laundry.

If you don’t have a washing machine, just get in touch with Laundryheap! We’ll remove the cheese stains on your clothes and also launder them to perfection!

Hotel owners have the responsibility to keep guests happy and keep the hotel running smoothly. It’s not an easy task and mistakes will occur throughout your journey as the owner. To help you get ahead of the curve, here are 5 hotel mistakes to avoid!

1. Not Including Key Details In Your Website

When guests are looking for a hotel to book, the first thing they look for is convenience. List all the important information that will be helpful to the guests. These could include information on breakfast, airport taxi transfers, check-in/check-out times or any attractions nearby the location.

Hotel Check in times reception

2. Not Looking After Your Guests

It goes without saying but one of the major hotel mistakes to avoid is not following up on your guests after they’ve booked. It’s great to welcome and greet your guests as they arrive but this should be followed upon. Always be available and provide assistance whenever they need help.

One way you can look after your guests is by partnering up with a laundry service. With Laundryheap, your guests will feel like royalty as we’ll come and collect their laundry and return it back to your hotel within 24 hours! It’s convenient and it makes your guests happy!

3. Not Upgrading Your Wi-FI

For most, having a fast internet connection is important. Your hotel is likely to attract businesspeople who will need the WI-FI to connect to their meetings. Unfortunately, the most common negative review is slow WI-FI.

Not fixing slow WI-FI is a bad hotel mistake. Upgrade your WI-FI and invest in boosters so that every room has a great signal. It will put smiles on faces, especially those who are travelling from abroad as a good steady WI-FI means they don’t need to worry about data roaming charges

4. Not Investing In Better Bed Linens

Guests come to the hotel to have a cosy and comfortable stay and if your bed linens aren’t of high quality, you’ll receive negative reviews from your guests.

That’s why you should invest in better bed linens to give your guests that heavenly feeling of a goodnight’s sleep! With Laundryheap Linen, you can elevate your hotel room with luxurious, cosy, and soft bed linen!

5. Failing To Maintain An Online Presence

Regarding hotel mistakes, failing to maintain an online presence is a major one to avoid. In the modern day, the digital world is ever-changing, and your hotel needs to take advantage of it. Be active on the social media pages and look for any comments.

Keep track of guest reviews. Reply to the negative comments from previous guests and find a solution to their queries. It’s also beneficial if you replied to guests who give you good feedback.

Furthermore, use emails to follow up on hotel guests. Ask them to rate their experience and get their feedback. The more reviews your hotel gets, the better chance you can use the feedback to improve the overall service.
