Preventing Mildew On Your Clothes

It isn’t uncommon for mildew to form on clothes. The more moisture and the hotter the temperature, the higher likelihood of them growing. If your garment material is cotton, wool, linen or leather, you will probably come across mildew stains. To reduce the chances of this happening, we’ll go through ways of preventing mildew on your clothes.

Consistently Clean Your House

If you clean your house consistently and thoroughly, you will prevent mildew on your clothes. Areas such as closets and drawers are hotspots for mildew to grow so make sure you take precautions and clean them before storing your clothes there.

Get Damp Clothes Out Of The Washing Machine Immediately

Mildew grow when there is moisture. If you leave your damped clothes in the washing machine for a certain period of time, you are risking mildew growing.

Keep monitoring your washing machine cycle and put your garment in the dryer or hang them up once they are ready.

Store Clothes In A Cool Environment

In addition, you should store your clothes in a cool environment that is exposed to ventilation as this gets rid of all the moisture in the air and sends it outside.

If you are storing them in a closet, make sure the closet is properly cleaned.

Circulate Air

Circulating the air is crucial when preventing mildew growth. Not only does this reduce dampness but it will also mean the air will move freely around the room which then reduces mould growth. Adding to this, your room will get more exposure to sunlight which does eliminate mildew.

Keep Your Bathroom Fan On For 30 Minutes

Mould and mildew spread easily, especially in the bathroom due to the moisture. Mildew can latch onto your clothes when you step into the bathroom. But to eliminate any moisture from growing, make sure you keep your fan on for at least 30 minutes. If you don’t turn your bathroom fan on, you will risk not only mildew from growing but bacteria also.
