For all you students who are living independently in student accommodation, we’ve come up with a few tips that will help you save money when it comes to doing the laundry.
Money Saving Laundry Tips For Students
- Use a drying rack
- Only do laundry when you need to
- Hand wash underwear
- Bring some laundry home
Use A Drying Rack
Instead of spending money on both the washing and drying machine, save yourself the extra coins and invest in a drying rack. Whether it’s a tall or portable one, choose a size fit for your room.
You can also hang dry some items around your room like on closet doors or on the shower rod and use the radiator.
Only Do Laundry When You Need To
An obvious one that probably many of you do already is to wait until your clothes are smelly and visibly dirty until you put them in the wash. It’s best to do the laundry only when necessary and to wait till you have a full load of laundry to maximise the use of the washing machine.
Hand Wash Underwear
By hand washing your underwear and bras, you won’t have to be in a rush to get the laundry done just because you’re running out of underwear. It may seem time-consuming but will only take around 10 mins of your time and will save you a lot of money. If you’re not sure how to hand wash, check out this hand wash guide. You can also hand wash other clothing as well as hosiery.
Bring Some Laundry Home
For when you get a break at uni, and you plan to go back home, bring a suitcase of laundry with you and get your laundry done there instead. If you visit home every weekend, take the opportunity to do your laundry then.
