Everybody knows the struggle of trying to dry clothes inside during the winter when you don’t have a tumble dryer. Even if you do have one, they can be really expensive to run, so many choose to ditch them altogether in favour of cheaper methods.
Thankfully, there are plenty out there. And one expert on social media has revealed a straightforward technique to get your washing bone-dry ultra fast.
Posting on her TikTok channel Neat Caroline, she demonstrated the “burrito” method for drying garments quicker – without needing a tumble dryer. In her online guide, Caroline spread out a dry towel flat, then positions a damp shirt at one end. She then tightly wrapped the towel and shirt together from the base upwards, resembling the making of a “burrito”.

To remove excess moisture, she applied firm pressure to the rolled-up towel, using her knees for additional leverage, reports the Express. Once unwrapped, she then placed the item on a drying rack, and according to Caroline, it “will dry in one to two hours instead of overnight”. For those needing even quicker results, Caroline suggested using a hairdryer following the burrito wrap to get the clothing dry, which she said takes ‘one minute’.
Fellow laundry expert Deyan Dimitrov, the founder of Laundryheap, also shared his “quick-dry” suggestions for drying garments indoors.
Without using a tumble dryer or a hair dryer, Deyan recommended positioning the clothes horse away from exterior walls. The best location in the house for drying clothes is somewhere with the most heat; this might be in a bright room during daylight hours or in a room with the heating switched on.

However, garments should be drying in well-ventilated spaces to avoid mould forming in the home – so this might mean positioning them beside a draughty door, for instance. As well as this, to ensure your clothes dry “quickly and effectively”, it’s best to leave enough space between each garment on the clothes horse.
This helps an adequate amount of air flow around the clothes, which helps to speed up the drying process.
If you do have a tumble dryer, this can significantly speed up the drying process, but not all clothes are suited to the machine – and they can be expensive to run.
