When doing the laundry, there are some things that you should avoid doing to prevent unwanted mishaps from happening to your clothes.

Rubbing In Stains

When treating a stain, avoid rubbing it as this will make it worse and damage the fabric. Instead, gently dab or rub the stain with a clean cloth. Remember to treat stains as soon as possible before it sets in a becomes tough to remove.

Using Excessive Detergent

Using too much detergent will cause a buildup of suds, preventing your clothes from being cleaned properly. Instead, use the detergent cap to measure an appropriate amount.

Washing Without Checking The Care Label

Most garments can be machine washed, but some require a gentle cycle, hand wash or dry clean only method. It’s essential to check the label, especially for delicate clothing to make sure you’re cleaning it the right way and not exposing its damage.

Before putting your dress shirts or buttoned-up shirts into the wash, make sure all the buttons are undone, including the ones around the cuff and collar area. This will prevent damage to the threading of the buttons and buttonholes.

Not Sorting Clothes

Sorting clothes and washing with similar colours will prevent colourfastness and is especially beneficial for keeping your white clothes white. It’s also important to note that sorting delicate clothing will keep it from being damaged.

Leaving Zippers Undone

Make sure to zip up all zips on your clothing whether that’s on your jeans or cardigan, to prevent it from snagging onto other clothing.

Over- Filling The Washing Machine

If you want your clothes to be cleaned thoroughly, avoid over-filling your washing machine. Instead, make sure you leave about a 1/3 of space so your clothes can move around.

Leaving Clothes In The Machine After Washing

Take clothes straight out of the washing machine once the cycle has finished, to prevent your clothes from wrinkling and having a musty smell.
