5 Benefits of Adding Baking Soda to Your Laundry Routine

Just like distilled white vinegar, baking soda has a lot of cleaning benefits, especially for your clothes!

Baking soda (or sodium bicarbonate) is a mild alkaline powder that raises the pH balance of water when mixed in with it. It acts as a natural cleanser, deodoriser and is also a mild antiseptic.

Here are 5 Benefits of Adding Baking Soda To Your Laundry Routine:

Brightens Clothes

Baking soda contains natural antiseptic properties which helps remove dinginess that remains on clothes overtime. By adding 1/2  a cup of Baking Soda to your regular wash (with laundry detergent) in the dispenser, your clothes will come out brighter!

Laundry Detergent Booster

When you add baking soda to your laundry, it helps boosts your laundry detergents performance as well as soften hard water that creates the dinginess. This will result in  fresher, and softer clothes. You’ll also be able to use less laundry detergent too.

Removes Odours

Baking soda works well in neutralising odours, even in the air; so it will work wonders in your wash! If you have clothes that are really smelly, you can pre-soak your clothes in 1-2 cups of baking soda mixed with warm water overnight before washing as normal.

Natural Fabric Softener

If you want softer clothes without using fabric softener, baking soda is a great alternative! Since it helps to regulate the pH balance of water, it also suspends detergent and mineral residue that causes your clothes to feel rough. Baking soda is also great for people with sensitive skin as it is a natural mineral. Just add 1/2 a cup in the drawer on the final rinse.

Removes Stains

Baking soda is a natural stain remover and is great for removing tough stains like oil, grease and food. All you need to do is create a baking soda paste with water, apply to the stain lightly rubbing it in and let it sit. Depending on how tough the stain is, you can let the paste sit for up to 15 mins or leave it over night.
