We want to get the stain out as fast as possible and in the easiest way. This, however, can lead to us making the situation much worse. These are some of the most common stain removal faux pas to avoid.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Leaving it&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Rubbing not blotting<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Using hot water<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Not spot testing&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Using too much solution&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Throwing bleach at the situation&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Drying before checking&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"leaving-it\">Leaving it\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although tempting, the worst thing to do when you notice a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laundryheap.com\/blog\/the-5-stains-of-thanksgiving\/\">stain <\/a>is to leave it. The longer you put off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laundryheap.com\/blog\/pre-treatment-alternatives\/\">pre-treating<\/a> a stain the more it will set into the fibres of your garment, making it much more difficult to remove when you do get round to lifting it. Instead, as soon as you notice a stain, treat it. Regardless of what the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laundryheap.com\/blog\/how-to-remove-beetroot-stains\/\">stain <\/a>is, rubbing will only set it further into the fibres of your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laundryheap.com\/blog\/clothing-to-avoid-wearing-to-the-beach\/\">clothing<\/a>, making it more difficult to remove. If your stain is protein-based, such as milk, hot water will curdle the protein and make it near impossible to lift. A spot test is when you apply a small amount of the stain remover to a hidden area on your garment, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laundryheap.com\/blog\/how-to-test-clothes-for-colourfastness\/\">such as an inside seam<\/a>, to test if it will cause any permanent damage, such as bleaching, to your item. Using a lot of stain remover on one small stain can cause irreversible damage to your clothing, and may not even lift the stain. Instead, use the suggested amount of remover and complete the full stain removal process. That being said, it can also cause lasting damage to your garment. Before attempting to lift your stain using bleach first look for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laundryheap.com\/blog\/no-stain-no-pain-unusual-stain-removers\/\">alternative methods<\/a> that use less harmful products. If you can\u2019t find any alternative treatments, make sure that bleach is the safest option for your clothing- this is especially important if your stain is on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laundryheap.com\/blog\/how-to-sort-your-laundry\/\">coloured clothing<\/a>. Finally, if bleach is safe to use on your stained garment, only use a small amount.
