5 Ways To Preserve Your Wedding Dress

Whether you’re keeping or have kept your wedding dress for sentimental value or you’re passing it down, it’s very important to preserve your wedding dress for it to remain in perfect condition. The intricate design and detailing means it is extremely delicate and must be preserved in the right way.

Here are 5 Ways To Preserve Your Wedding Dress:

Get It Dry Cleaned

Even though you’ve only used your dress once and thought to have been completely careful whilst wearing it, there may be ‘invisible’ stains that you are totally unaware of. Some of these marks may begin to appear overtime as they oxidise and turn a yellow colour. Avoid this issue by making sure to get your gown cleaned by a specialist wedding dress dry cleaner to get the right treatment it deserves!

Store It In A Special Box

Avoid hanging your wedding dress along with the other clothes in your wardrobe. This will cause the dress to crease, catch on to and get bashed on by the other clothes- not something you want if you’re trying to preserve your wedding dress.

Instead, use a special wedding dress box. These boxes are PH neutral and are made from acid free material, making it a safe place to store your gown and promote longevity. Using an ordinary box may cause the fabric to turn yellow overtime.

Also, take into consideration the size of he box, making sure it’s not too small for the dress.

Use Acid-Free Tissue Paper

Pack acid-free tissue paper in between the layers of your gown when folding it to store it in its’s box. This will help to preserve the fabrics quality overtime and doesn’t crumble like ordinary tissue paper.

NOTE: Some storage boxes come with acid-free tissue paper with instructions of how to use it.

Keep It Out Of The Attic

Attic spaces can be damp and humid, where all sorts of insects, birds and rodents can invade and make it a home.  The damp environment can cause mould or even mildew growth on your wedding dress. So, do avoid storing your wedding dress up in the attic as much as you can!

Store It In A Cool, Dry Place

For your wedding dress to be well preserved, it needs to be kept well away from the heat and direct light. The best environmental state to store your wedding dress in is as cool, dry place.

With these tips, you can ensure that your wedding dress will be preserved for the longest period of time! Don’t forget to take it out every 6 months or so, to prevent permanent creases and ensure it is still in pristine condition.
