Bahrain Travel Tips

Bahrain is a wonderful country that is enriched with culture, architecture, history, and delicious food. Because it is an island country with no land borders, Bahrain is a hidden gem that is worth exploring! If you are thinking of visiting, here are the key Bahrain travel tips for you!

Bahrain Travel Tips

Read Government Website

The past two years have seen some unprecedented times in our lifetime. Plans are constantly changing. To be on the safe side, frequently check the UK and Bahrani government websites to see the latest updates on travel restrictions, requirements etc. Finding out the country’s rules on masks and social distancing should be at the top of your priorities.

When To Visit Bahrain

Bahrain has a very hot climate. If you’re not so keen on the heat, visit between November to March. While the weather still will be hot, it won’t be as high as the other periods of the year.

If you do love Formula 1 and want to visit for the Bahrain Grand Prix, March and April will be the time to visit but make sure you stay hydrated, it will be very hot!

If you are on a budget, we recommend visiting Bahrain in January as that’s generally the cheapest time to fly.

Sunset. Bahrain Travel tips. Hot Weather.

Visa Requirements

It’s compulsory for anyone travelling with a UK passport to get a valid Bahrain visa. You may think this will be time-consuming but worry not, Bahrain now uses an electronic visa system known as the Evisa! The best thing about Evisa is that you can apply online – through your laptop or phone – which saves you the hassle of going to the Embassy.  Just make sure you apply 3 days before your trip.

Currency

Bahrain uses the Bahraini Dinar (BHD). To get a brief idea of how this compares with the British Pound Sterling, one Bahraini Dinar equals 2.26 pounds. This is an important Bahraini travel tip as currency information helps you to plan your trip better!

Having The Correct Adaptor

A tourist’s worst nightmare is going to a country and not having the correct adaptor to charge their low-battery phone.

This is why out of all the Bahrain travel tips, knowing what adaptor to use is essential.

Some go to Bahrain for a holiday while others visit for business reasons. If you are the latter, getting the right adaptor is fundamental in case you need to use your work laptop.

Bahrain currently uses the plug type G; this has three rectangular pins, and it operates on 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

Public Transport

Taxis are usually the best way to get around in Bahrain. They are quick, convenient, and efficient with their service. Taxi drivers usually have a meter inside their car so keep an eye on it as you are being transferred to your location.

Bahrain also has a steady network of public buses that run from 6 am to 9 pm.

Laundryheap Services Are Available

If you are staying for a while and the laundry is piling up, here is a travel tip; just book a laundry service that does the laundry work for you!

5 Tips To Sleep Better In The Heat

The British summer is soaring. We all love ice cream and picnics, but the high temperatures can disrupt our sleep. Sometimes even opening all the windows and using a fan doesn’t make a big difference. In this blog, we’ll go through the things you can do to sleep better in the heat.

1. Stay Hydrated

In the middle of a heatwave, it’s always best to stay hydrated with cool water. Your body is sweating throughout the day and by drinking water, you are replenishing the fluids lost from all the sweating. Carry a bottle of water with you and stay hydrated as it also helps to sleep better in the heat.

2. Stay Active

We feel you. The heatwave does exhaust our energy levels. You’d be forgiven for thinking napping restores our energy but it will make sleep difficult at night. Instead, you should stay active by going for walks and even for a jog. You will get better sleep if you feel tired.

3. Use Less Electricity In Your Room

If you’re not watching TV, turn it off because it will only spread more heat around your room. You want to prevent heat from building up in your room so use less electricity. At night-time, open your windows to allow the air to circulate all around.

4. Lower Your Body Temperature

Before you go to sleep, go for a quick cool shower so your body’s temperature goes down. Not only do cool showers help you to sleep better in the heat but they also have health benefits as they help improve blood circulation and help the muscle recover.

5. Choose The Right Bedding

The key to a good night’s sleep in the heatwave is to choose the right bedding. The general rule of thumb is to use thin cotton sheets as these absorb sweat better.

We all love the smell of fresh bedding, and it does make for a cosy sleep so make sure you are washing your bedding regularly in the summer. If you need help, just get in touch with Laundryheap and we’ll launder it for you!

Abu Dhabi: Expats Guide On Moving To UAE

Abu Dhabi is the capital and second-most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (after Dubai). The city is located on an island in the Persian Gulf, off the Central West Coast.

The whole of the UAE is home to over 200 nationalities, with Emiratis making up roughly 20% of the total population. It’s such a popular destination for Expats. This list will tell you all you need to know about moving to Abu Dhabi.

guide to moving to UAE

What is it known for?

The capital of the UAE is a culturally unique city on the shore of the Arabian Sea. Abu Dhabi has been the traditional home of the federal government. The emirate owns 95% of the UAE’s oil production. As a result, the city provides a wealth of opportunities to ex-pats by allowing residents to live tax-free.

Abu Dhabi Island is the centre of the city, connected to the mainland by three bridges and surrounded by several smaller islands. The last decade has seen the city concentrate on developing its tourism, education, financial and cultural sectors.

Things to know before you go

Before you go to the UAE, you will need to apply for a visa. Most noteworthy, you will need a work permit, residence visa and an Emirates ID card. Often employers will apply for the visas for you and once granted, they last for up to two years. To get a residence visa for your family, you will need to show you earn at least AED 4,000 a month.

Information to know once you arrive

The main airport in the city is the Abu Dhabi International Airport, the second-largest in the UAE after Dubai. Another important detail to know before arrival is the currency, which is the UAE dirham (AED or Dhs) and is pegged against the US dollar at US$ 1: AED 3.6725.

Arabic is the leading language spoken in Abu Dhabi, with English generally spoken throughout. As well to English, the other common languages spoken are Farsi, Hindi and Urdu.

Where to live?

One of the most desirable areas to live in the city is The Corniche on Abu Dhabi Island. The area is home to many mixed-use developments, hotels and malls. Similarly, the highly sought-after modern luxury developments found on other islands such as Al Reem prove very popular with Expats. Saadiyat Island is currently being developed with a host of villas and high-end apartment blocks and will be home to about 160,000 residents.

While most Expats move to one of these Island suburbs, there are plenty of suburbs on the mainland suitable for potential Expats, such as Khalifa City along the Abu Dhabi – Dubai Road.

The weather

The climate of the UAE features a desert climate with hot summers and cold winters. Most days are sunny and pleasant except in the middle of the summer season (July – August) when it is VERY hot in the UAE.

As a result, the nicest period is during wintertime, which runs from October to March. The weather is moderate and pleasant during this time, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Moving to Abu Dhabi with family

The UAE is a very family-friendly country and a place you can make a fresh start with your spouse and children. Fortunately, English is widely spoken in Abu Dhabi, which makes the initial move more comfortable.

Family is highly valued throughout the United Arab Emirates, and this will give you a simple way to bond with locals and new colleagues. As for Education in Abu Dhabi, private or international schools are abundant, so there is plenty of option for your kids.

What is the food in Abu Dhabi like?

Brunch is very popular in Abu Dhabi, and beyond in the UAE. It is not uncommon for people to settle for double or even triple brunches in one day. Yes, you read that correctly, some people will repeatedly jump from one brunch to another once the weekend comes round.

One staple food found all over the region is the national fruit: dates. You will see these fruits being sold everywhere and will often find them incorporated into local recipes. As well as these regional delicacies, you will be able to access almost every type of dining in Abu Dhabi, from high-end to fast food. Because of its diverse population, Abu Dhabi has a plethora of different cuisines, as you’d find in any big city.

Another reason to go to Abu Dhabi is that Laundryheap operates there! We offer the people of Abu Dhabi a same-day laundry and dry cleaning collection with free next-day delivery.
